MGS4 Release Date, 80GB PS3 Bundle, and more.

Metal Gear Solid 4 has finally been given a solid release date of June ’08. Metal Gear Solid 4 was delayed late last year and we have been waiting for an announcement ever since. We may be going out on a limb, but we are going to go even further and say that it will be out Thursday, June 12th, 2008.

But the release announcement isn’t the only surprising news.

Earlier today at Destination PlayStation, a retailers only conference for Sony products, Sony announced that a Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle pack will be released in Q2 2008. The bundle will include MGS4, an 80GB PS3 and a Dual Shock 3 included for an MSRP of $499.99. It will also include an Metal Gear Online “Starter Pack.”

“Wait a minute….WHAT!?!?! A new 80GB PS3 Bundle!? I thought they were discontinued?”

We thought the same thing. The president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA), Jack Trenton, had this to say:

“In response to incredible demand, we will be manufacturing more 80GB PS3s for North America and the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots 80GB PS3 bundle is an ideal way to offer that continued value to our consumers.”

The official Metal Gear Solid 4 website confirms it,

Sorry that you were wrong buddy. Better luck next time.

  3. ok, i dont need ur f**kin luck, sonys not gonna wait and lose considerable amounts of money, and clientele just for a stupid game to come out, the only reason they discontinued the 80gb model, was becuz of the rumble controller. Sorry that ur mom was wrong buddy

  5. hey man dont mind jixxer hes just a ignorant guy, bt yeah is sony goin to come out with a replacement 80gb model till the mgs4 comes out or anything?

  6. Riotforthree,

It doesn’t look like they are. I think the only place you can find an 80GB unit is a used one at a Gamestop or a new or used one on ebay.

I’ve actually done some of my own research on this. It looks like Sony has stopped selling the Spider-Man 3 40GB bundle and have started selling just a regular 40GB console. So maybe they are getting ready to release a new 80GB version, but I doubt it.

Keep your hopes up. MGS4 is only 2 and a half months away.

  7. i cant wiat. ive held back on buying my ps3 for this moment. JUNE 12 I SHALL GET MY PS3 AND MGS.

  9. There is always the internet. There are plenty of places online that have brand new systems. Like I said before, I bet your local Gamestop or EB Games will have some 80Gigs.

ALSO: If you guys are interested in this Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 Bundle, then check out this special model that Japan will be receiving on June 12th. Go here. I’ve actually known about this for awhile, but never bothered to post it since none of the people that visit this site live in Japan.

  10. wat

  12. The only one I know about is the Special Edition Grand Theft Auto IV 40GB PS3 Bundle that is coming out on April 29th, 2008.

As of right now, it has not been ‘officially’ confirmed by Sony or Rockstar Games, but several sites are saying it is definetely happening. If it does happen, it might be a Europe only package.

I will update everyone on this on our “NEW SITE” that is launching tonight at 6:00 p.m. Central Time.

  13. […] website users, and myself, have gotten into a heated discussion over in this post in the comment section. We are talking about Sony’s decision to remove the 80 GB console […]
