Daily News for March 14th, 2008.

  • Manhunt 2 has finally been given the ‘ok’ to be release in the UK. The British Board of Film Classification rejected the game twice for certification. There is still no UK release date for the title. The US version was released last October.
  • It seems that Mass Effect 2 will be exclusive to the Xbox 360 only for a short time. “I believe we’ll be Xbox 360 exclusive for at least a short period of time,” BioWare senior manager Matt Atwood told CVG.
  • So much Grand Theft Auto IV news and info is rolling in. Check out GTA-Division.com for all of the latest details.

In the News #43 – 3/10/2008

UPDATE: If you couldn’t figure it out on your own, we meant to say that the price of the Xbox 360 has dropped in the UK. That is why the prices are in pounds.

Daily News for March 10th, 2008.

  • Microsoft has slashed the price of Xbox 360, cutting the estimated retail price for the Arcade pack by £40, to £159.99. The Premium pack, which includes a 20GB hard drive and a wireless controller, has had its price cut by £50 to £199, while the Xbox 360 Elite will retail for £259.99 which is down £40.
  • Guess what, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is now available in a store near you.
  • The first downloadbale content pack for Mass Effect, Bring Down the Sky, is now available on Xbox Live. The pack adds around 90 minutes of gameplay. It can yours for 400 Microsoft Points.
  • Wii Ware has been set for a March 25th, 2008 release for Japan. If you want, take a look at the nine games that will be downloadable on that day. But it doesn’t really matter for most of us since we don’t live in Japan.
  • Apparently G4TV’s The Feed has done a little research. A recent post is stating the fact that Portal has received over 100 awards this year. 50 of the awards were game of the year awards, and the other 50 or so were overall special achievement awards. Ya done good Portal, ya done good.

Weekly Review #3

Here’s our Weekly Review for the week of February 25th – February 29th, 2008.

  • Electronic Arts started off the week by offering to buy out Take-Two Interactive. It didn’t go so well. Read More.
  • Phil Harrison, the President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, has announced that he is to be parting ways with the company after 15 years on the job. He retired on February 29th, 2008.
  • Microsoft has announced that they are completely shutting down their HD-DVD format. They will no longer build the add-on HD-DVD player for the Xbox 360, but will continue customer support on existing units.
  • Ubisoft made the announcement that Haze will be arriving on the Playstation 3 in May. Read and Watch More Here.
  • Metal Gear Solid 4 has been set for a June 12th, 2008 release. There will be a standard edition and an 80GB Playstation 3 MGS4 bundle. Read More Here and Here.
  • Bioware announced that Mass Effect will be coming to the PC on May 6th, 2008.
  • The DualShock 3 for the Playstation 3 (complete with rumble) will be released in North America in April 2008 for $54.99.
  • Call of Duty 4 has been patched for the Xbox 360. Additions like Host Migration, kill cams, and better sniper accuracy were some of the changes.

  • The makers of Dead Rising, Capcom, have been sued. MKR Group, holder of the rights to George A. Romero’s horror classic Dawn of the Dead, has filed a lawsuit against Capcom over similarities between the 1979 film and 2006 Xbox 360 game.
  • Haze has been confirmed for a May 2008 release. A new trailer was also released. Read and watch here.
  • Electronic Arts announced today that Indianapolis Head Coach Tony Dungy will be on the cover of NFL Head Coach ’09.
  • A new horror game by EA, Dead Space, has been announced for an October 31st, 2008 release. Gee, I wonder why?
  • Bioware announced today that Mass Effect will be coming to the PC on May 6th, 2008.
  • Metal Gear Solid 4 is coming in June 2008; but that’s not all folks. A MGS4 80GB PS3 Bundle is also coming. What? Read more.
  • God of War: Chains of Olympus has sparked a lot of interest in the PSP system. So much interest that Sony has announced a new Red PSP Bundle. It comes complete with a Red PSP w/ Kratos on the back, the God of War: Chains of Olympus game, a UMD version of Superbad, and a voucher for Syphon Filter: Combat Ops. For $199, it will be available in June. See the new Red PSP.

Weekly Review #1

We are now going to combine our Xbox, Nintendo, and Playstation Weekly Reviews together to form one Weekly Review. Here’s our Weekly Review for the week of February 11th – February 15th, 2008.

  • Now available on the Wii Virtual Console is Harvest Moon for Super NES, and Lords of Thunder for TG-16 CD. Both games were released for 800 points.
  • Electronic Arts Inc. and Maxis have announced that Spore, the highly anticipated game from the creators of The Sims, will be available at retailers worldwide the weekend of September 7th, 2008. Spore will be available for the PC, Macintosh, Nintendo DS, and mobile phones. Go here to see IGN’s article which includes the Release Date Trailer.
  • 274,000 Wiis were bought in January.
  • Super Smash Bros. Brawl was first place in sales again in its second week, having 251,789 copies sold, twice as many as the second place game. Super Smash Bros. Brawl sold one million copies faster than any Wii game before.
  • A multiplayer demo has been released for Frontlines: Fuel of War on Xbox Live. It allows up to 32 players for multiplayer combat.
  • Hironobu Sakaguchi’s newest RPG; Lost Odyssey is now exclusively available on the 360 console.

  • Call of Duty 4 continues to control all that is Xbox Live. It stays on top as the most played Xbox Live title for last week, followed closely by Halo 3.
  • It’s not an officially official confirmation, but an ‘official’ confirmation of the discontinuation of the 80GB Playstation 3 has been released. Read More.
  • Sierra Entertainment has announced that World in Conflict will appear on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 systems this fall. Additional single player and multiplayer content is expected.
  • The Guitar Hero saga continues, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith has been announced. It will arrive in June ‘08.

  • Makers of the hit series Major League Baseball 2K announced new content and features to be on Major League Baseball 2K8, saying it’ll be more realistic mechanically speaking. The new features include, but are not limited to: Total Pitch control, Swing Stick 2.0, All-New Base-running, Precision Throw Control, Full Minor Leagues, and two of the best commentators in the business- Jon Miller and Joe Morgan. This game’s got some high expectations following it in its’ path!

In the News #20 – 2/6/2008

  • Age of Conan has been censored in Germany according to Funcom, developer of the game. Other European territories, along with the United States, get a full version with enhanced dismemberment, decapitation, over-the-top kills, and nipples. Yes, that’s right…nipples. More than 500,000 people have already signed up to join the Age of Conan community.
  • The first set of downloadable content has been announced for Mass Effect. The pack is called Bring Down the Sky and is scheduled for a release on March 10 at 2AM PST for 400 Microsoft Points (US $5.)
  • Ubisoft announced today that Assassin’s Creed is coming to PC at the end of March. This version of the game is called “Assassin’s Creed, Director’s cut edition” and will feature four brand new exclusive types of investigations.
  • A recent news letter sent out by ESRB states that only 6% of the 1,563 games released last year were rated M for Mature. Nearly 60% were rated E for Everyone.

  • The HD-DVD player add-on for the Xbox 360 has had a price drop of $50.00. It can now be bought for $129.00 in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
  • Medal of Honor Heroes 2 may not have multiplayer after all. This feature has apparently been taken out of the game. More details are sure to come soon.
