Daily News for March 24th, 2008.

  • Capcom Japan announced today that a special DVD will be released to celebrate its 25th anniversary. The DVD will be included with the issue of Weekly Famitsu that’s due out on the 28th. The DVD is expected to have exclusive footage of Resident Evil 5.
  • Rock Band has been announced for the Wii! The game will make its Wii debut on June 22nd, 2008 in America and Canada. The package includes the game, a set of drums, a microphone and wireless guitar, and will cost $169.99. This version will include 63 songs.

  • Nintendo announced today that Mario Kart Wii is being released on April 27th, 2008. The game is coming packaged with the Wii Wheel. It will feature 12-player multiplayer online.
  • Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will be arriving in European stores on March 28th, 2008. It’ll be debuting on the PlayStation Network on March 27. Both versions will cost £24.99. On the same day, a new PlayStation 3 bundle will be released for £299.99 which gets you a 40GB console and a copy of the game.

  • Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 Legacy Edition is coming April 2008. It will include the original game and an additional disk containing all the GRAW 2 downloadable packs available on Xbox Live to date.

Daily News for March 11th, 2008.

  • Yesterday we reported on how Wii Ware is set for a March 25th release with 9 games being available at that time. Tetris has been announced for a Wii Ware appearance, but not until summer of this year. It will feature online multiplayer for up to six players.
  • Ouchide Mugen Puti Puti, a Japanese bubble wrap popping game, has also been announced for a Wii Ware release in Spring ’08 for 800 Wii points. 
  • Call of Duty 4 brings home the gold once again as last week’s Xbox Live most played game. Halo 3 came in second.
  • Bioshock 2 has been announced. Read More.
  • Mafia II is set for a release in Take-Two Interactive’s Fiscal 2009 year (November 1st, 2008 through October 31st, 2009.)

In the News #43 – 3/10/2008

UPDATE: If you couldn’t figure it out on your own, we meant to say that the price of the Xbox 360 has dropped in the UK. That is why the prices are in pounds.

Daily News for March 10th, 2008.

  • Microsoft has slashed the price of Xbox 360, cutting the estimated retail price for the Arcade pack by £40, to £159.99. The Premium pack, which includes a 20GB hard drive and a wireless controller, has had its price cut by £50 to £199, while the Xbox 360 Elite will retail for £259.99 which is down £40.
  • Guess what, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is now available in a store near you.
  • The first downloadbale content pack for Mass Effect, Bring Down the Sky, is now available on Xbox Live. The pack adds around 90 minutes of gameplay. It can yours for 400 Microsoft Points.
  • Wii Ware has been set for a March 25th, 2008 release for Japan. If you want, take a look at the nine games that will be downloadable on that day. But it doesn’t really matter for most of us since we don’t live in Japan.
  • Apparently G4TV’s The Feed has done a little research. A recent post is stating the fact that Portal has received over 100 awards this year. 50 of the awards were game of the year awards, and the other 50 or so were overall special achievement awards. Ya done good Portal, ya done good.

  • Just as a heads up, the Playstation Network Store is getting a major overhaul come April. Keep on the lookout.
  • The Wii port of Okami is being pushed back 3 weeks from it’s original March 25th release to April 15th.
  • New DLC for Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 is now available on Xbox Live. The DLC pack includes a new co-op campain and 9 additional maps.
  • If you are planning to pre-order Grand Theft Auto IV for the Xbox 360 over in the UK, might I suggest pre-ordering the the UK retailer GAME. They are offering 500 free Microsoft Points that you can use to purchase Xbox Live Downloadable Content.

  • Less than a week after leaving as the head of Sony Computer Entertainment, Phil Harrison has joined Infogrames Entertainment, parent company of the Atari Group.
  • Section 8, an upcoming shooter game for 2009, now has its own website. Check it out.
  • A new PSP color variation is on the way for Japan. “Matte Bronze” is the name of it and it will arrive on April 24th along with a couple of new accessories. It will only be available as a bundle. This bundle comes with a D cable for hooking it up to a TV. Click Here to see it.
  • Capcom announced today that Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles has, as of February 29th, topped the million units mark in worldwide shipments.

In the News #35 – 2/27/2008

  • A price has been set for Wii Fit in the UK. The price is set at £69.99 in the UK and EUR 89.99 across Europe. It is coming April 25th in these areas, and May 19th in the US.
  • Capcom has announced that Resident Evil Zero is coming to the Wii.
  • Three seperate Metal Gear Solid 4 packages have been announced for a Japan release: The standard edition with the game and Metal Gear Online, the Special Edition which comes with a bonus Blu-Ray disk that has every MGS4 trailer and the making-of footage, and finally the Premium edition which has everything the Special Edition does plus PS3 unit. The Playstation 3 unit for the US is currently the 80GB, but the unit for Japan is being referred to as a “special model” by Famitsu which will unveil the model on March 21st. The Special Edition is currently only planned for a Japan release.
  • Disney has announced Ultimate Band, which is hopeing to be a strong competitor to Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Coming this Holiday season.
  • Intel has recently acquired Offset Software, which is currently working on the upcoming FPS Project Offset.
  • The Playstation 3 The Best titles are coming March 19th to Japan. The list includes Resistance, FolksSoul (Folklore), Gundam Target in Sight, and Ridge Racer 7. Even though they are only announced for Japan as of right now, they will probably soon find their way over to the US.

  • GDC 08: The inaugural Xbox Live Arcade Awards has revealed the results of the best games that over 26,000 members voted on. Read more on IGN.
  • Video games and comic books really do have something in common….they will both be appearing at WonderCon ’08. Major video game companies like Electronic Arts, Capcom, Ubisoft, and several other, are all making an appearance at WonderCon. Read More on the official WonderCon ’08 site.
  • GDC 08: During a session called “Planning the Wii Menu” today, Nintendo’s Takashi Aoyama announced a new Pay to Play program for the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. NWFC will remain a free service, but these new experiences will require users to pay a fee to enjoy. These services will fall under the new NWFC: Pay to Play program. No real details have been announced as of yet.
  • It just won’t stop. Super Smash Bros. Brawl sold 141,544 units between February 11th and February 17th in Japan, selling more 1.2 million units total since its January 31st release.

  • GDC 08: Release dates for Wii Fit and WiiWare were announced during GDC 08. Read More.
  • Capcom announced today that 2 million copies of Devil May Cry 4 have been shopped worldwide. This includes shipments for Japan,  North America, and Europe.
  • David Braben’s Frontier Developments announced today that its first title for WiiWare, LostWinds.
  • GDC 08: Gears of War 2 has been officially announced. Along with this, a teaser trailer has also been released. Also, a Limited Edition version will also be available when the game releases in November 2008. View the trailer and read more here.
  • GDC 08: The release date for Ninja Gaiden II has also been announced for a June 3rd, 2008 release.
  • GDC 08: During the Microsoft KeyNote, Lionhead Studio had a surprise for Fable 2. Instead of demoing the game, it was revealed that prior to the release of Fable 2, there will be a mini-game available for download that lets you build up your character before you even begin the game. Not much else is known as of right now.
  • GDC 08: A Ninja Gaiden II demo is apparently coming to Xbox Live soon. Go to the Marketplace tab on Xbox Live and look at what is in the Spotlight. Go up to the GDC banner and then go down to find a tab for New Game Announcements. Under Ninja Gaiden II you can a tab for an upcoming demo currently listed as “Coming Soon.”
  • 2K Games has announced that Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution will be in stores beginning June 3, 2008. It will be available for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Nintendo DS.

GDC 08 – Wii release dates

Nintendo has just announced a few release dates that might make a few Wii fans happy.

Nintendo is set to launch Wiiware, a place to down original Wii content, on May 12th, 2008.

Also, the highly anticipated release of Wii Fit for the United States has finally been set. It will land in the US on May 19th, 2008.

A press release distributed by Nintendo today reveals that a new episodic gaming series is being prepped by Telltale for WiiWare. The developer also confirmed the news on its official site, taking the opportunity to clarify that is definitely not a Sam & Max game, which gamers were hopeing would make a Wii appearance in the near future.
