Daily News for April 2nd, 2008.

  • The Dualshock 3 for the Playstation 3 has been shipped according to Sony. The controller which features rumble should be in stores soon for a price tag of $54.99.
  • Lucasfilm President Micheline Chau has announced that Darrell Rodriguez has been named president of LucasArts. Rodriquez will take action in mid-April. Rodriquez has worked on several projects like Medal of Honor: Airbourne, Lord of the Rings, Command & Conquer 3, and several others. He is currently the CEO over at Electronic Arts LA.
  • An all new Crysis patch, 1.3, is on its way. No release date has been set, but more information will be available next Wednesday.

In the News #48 – 3/17/2008

Daily News for March 17th, 2008.

  • Electronic Arts has a new president on their hands. According to MCV, John Pleasants has been named President and COO of Electronic Arts.
  • Activision has released details on the four new maps for Call of Duty 4 coming to Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network this spring. All four will be included in a single map pack. No specific date has been announced, but it will be in April for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
  • is reporting that Haze will remain a PS3 exclusive. According to the website, at a Live event in the UK, two Ubisoft representatives confirmed that they are not publishing a 360 version.
  • Prey 2 has been officially confirmed. There is no release date yet.
  • Nintendo of America announced on Monday that Super Smash Bros. Brawl is now officially the fastest-selling game in the company’s history. More than 1.4 million gamers have purchased the game since its release on March 9th. 874,000 people bought the game in its first day.

Daily News for March 12th, 2008.

  • Nintendo announced today that Mario Kart Wii is being released on April 27th, 2008. The game is coming packaged with the Wii Wheel. It will feature 12-player multiplayer online.
  • Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will be arriving in European stores on March 28th, 2008. It’ll be debuting on the PlayStation Network on March 27. Both versions will cost £24.99. On the same day, a new PlayStation 3 bundle will be released for £299.99 which gets you a 40GB console and a copy of the game.

Weekly Review #3

Here’s our Weekly Review for the week of February 25th – February 29th, 2008.

  • Electronic Arts started off the week by offering to buy out Take-Two Interactive. It didn’t go so well. Read More.
  • Phil Harrison, the President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, has announced that he is to be parting ways with the company after 15 years on the job. He retired on February 29th, 2008.
  • Microsoft has announced that they are completely shutting down their HD-DVD format. They will no longer build the add-on HD-DVD player for the Xbox 360, but will continue customer support on existing units.
  • Ubisoft made the announcement that Haze will be arriving on the Playstation 3 in May. Read and Watch More Here.
  • Metal Gear Solid 4 has been set for a June 12th, 2008 release. There will be a standard edition and an 80GB Playstation 3 MGS4 bundle. Read More Here and Here.
  • Bioware announced that Mass Effect will be coming to the PC on May 6th, 2008.
  • The DualShock 3 for the Playstation 3 (complete with rumble) will be released in North America in April 2008 for $54.99.
  • Call of Duty 4 has been patched for the Xbox 360. Additions like Host Migration, kill cams, and better sniper accuracy were some of the changes.

In the News #35 – 2/27/2008

Daily News for February 27th, 2008.

  • A price has been set for Wii Fit in the UK. The price is set at £69.99 in the UK and EUR 89.99 across Europe. It is coming April 25th in these areas, and May 19th in the US.
  • Capcom has announced that Resident Evil Zero is coming to the Wii.
  • Three seperate Metal Gear Solid 4 packages have been announced for a Japan release: The standard edition with the game and Metal Gear Online, the Special Edition which comes with a bonus Blu-Ray disk that has every MGS4 trailer and the making-of footage, and finally the Premium edition which has everything the Special Edition does plus PS3 unit. The Playstation 3 unit for the US is currently the 80GB, but the unit for Japan is being referred to as a “special model” by Famitsu which will unveil the model on March 21st. The Special Edition is currently only planned for a Japan release.
  • Disney has announced Ultimate Band, which is hopeing to be a strong competitor to Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Coming this Holiday season.
  • Intel has recently acquired Offset Software, which is currently working on the upcoming FPS Project Offset.
  • The Playstation 3 The Best titles are coming March 19th to Japan. The list includes Resistance, FolksSoul (Folklore), Gundam Target in Sight, and Ridge Racer 7. Even though they are only announced for Japan as of right now, they will probably soon find their way over to the US.

  • The makers of Dead Rising, Capcom, have been sued. MKR Group, holder of the rights to George A. Romero’s horror classic Dawn of the Dead, has filed a lawsuit against Capcom over similarities between the 1979 film and 2006 Xbox 360 game.
  • Haze has been confirmed for a May 2008 release. A new trailer was also released. Read and watch here.
  • Electronic Arts announced today that Indianapolis Head Coach Tony Dungy will be on the cover of NFL Head Coach ’09.
  • A new horror game by EA, Dead Space, has been announced for an October 31st, 2008 release. Gee, I wonder why?
  • Bioware announced today that Mass Effect will be coming to the PC on May 6th, 2008.
  • Metal Gear Solid 4 is coming in June 2008; but that’s not all folks. A MGS4 80GB PS3 Bundle is also coming. What? Read more.
  • God of War: Chains of Olympus has sparked a lot of interest in the PSP system. So much interest that Sony has announced a new Red PSP Bundle. It comes complete with a Red PSP w/ Kratos on the back, the God of War: Chains of Olympus game, a UMD version of Superbad, and a voucher for Syphon Filter: Combat Ops. For $199, it will be available in June. See the new Red PSP.

MGS4 Release Date, 80GB PS3 Bundle, and more.

Metal Gear Solid 4 has finally been given a solid release date of June ’08. Metal Gear Solid 4 was delayed late last year and we have been waiting for an announcement ever since. We may be going out on a limb, but we are going to go even further and say that it will be out Thursday, June 12th, 2008.

But the release announcement isn’t the only surprising news.

Earlier today at Destination PlayStation, a retailers only conference for Sony products, Sony announced that a Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle pack will be released in Q2 2008. The bundle will include MGS4, an 80GB PS3 and a Dual Shock 3 included for an MSRP of $499.99. It will also include an Metal Gear Online “Starter Pack.”

“Wait a minute….WHAT!?!?! A new 80GB PS3 Bundle!? I thought they were discontinued?”

We thought the same thing. The president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA), Jack Trenton, had this to say:

“In response to incredible demand, we will be manufacturing more 80GB PS3s for North America and the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots 80GB PS3 bundle is an ideal way to offer that continued value to our consumers.”

Haze Release Date Announced

Early this morning, Ubisoft made the announcement that Haze will be arriving on the Playstation 3 in May. The Playstation 3 exclusive has a rating of Mature, but who really cares these days?

In the News #29 – 2/19/1008

Daily News for February 19th, 2008.

  • Toshiba announced today that it will stop manufacturing HD-DVD players. Which means that the HD-DVD has pretty much lost the High-Definition war. Who could have known that Sony was making a good decision with making the PS3 a Blu-Ray player? Weird.
  • Capcom has announced its demo for the upcoming Lost Planet: Extreme Condition on PS3 will be available on the UK PlayStation Network on Thursday, February 21st.
  •  According to The Famitsu Marketing Data Service 1,729,034 Playstation 3s, PSPs, and Playstation 2s were sold across Japan in just the month of January. The PSP was the most popular piece of Sony hardware sold during the month, with almost 400,000 units. The Playstation 3 sold 166,000 units in January in Japan. And somehow, after seven years on the market, the Playstation 2 still managed to sell 74,000 units in January in Japan.

Weekly Review #1

We are now going to combine our Xbox, Nintendo, and Playstation Weekly Reviews together to form one Weekly Review. Here’s our Weekly Review for the week of February 11th – February 15th, 2008.

  • Now available on the Wii Virtual Console is Harvest Moon for Super NES, and Lords of Thunder for TG-16 CD. Both games were released for 800 points.
  • Electronic Arts Inc. and Maxis have announced that Spore, the highly anticipated game from the creators of The Sims, will be available at retailers worldwide the weekend of September 7th, 2008. Spore will be available for the PC, Macintosh, Nintendo DS, and mobile phones. Go here to see IGN’s article which includes the Release Date Trailer.
  • 274,000 Wiis were bought in January.
  • Super Smash Bros. Brawl was first place in sales again in its second week, having 251,789 copies sold, twice as many as the second place game. Super Smash Bros. Brawl sold one million copies faster than any Wii game before.
  • A multiplayer demo has been released for Frontlines: Fuel of War on Xbox Live. It allows up to 32 players for multiplayer combat.
  • Hironobu Sakaguchi’s newest RPG; Lost Odyssey is now exclusively available on the 360 console.
  • BioWare has announced Mass Effect for PC with added features including: High Resolution visuals, Fully customizable controls, Run and Gun control, new decryption mini-screen and new inventory screen GUI and functionality.

  • Call of Duty 4 continues to control all that is Xbox Live. It stays on top as the most played Xbox Live title for last week, followed closely by Halo 3.

  • Sierra Entertainment has announced that World in Conflict will appear on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 systems this fall. Additional single player and multiplayer content is expected.
  • The Guitar Hero saga continues, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith has been announced. It will arrive in June ‘08.
