1st Look at NASCAR 09

After a disappointing NASCAR 08 game, it appears that EA is once again trying to revive the NASCAR game title. If you go to any NASCAR game forum, you will quickly learn that the 2004 game was the last good game in the series.

NASCAR 09 was unveiled before the Sam’s Town 300 Nationwide race in Las Vegas, and it is looking pretty nice.

The Sims 3 Coming Soon!

Yes, that’s right ladies and gentlemen; The Sims 3. The next installment of the incredible “The Sims” series is about to take flight.

Electronic Arts today released a brand new website, TheSims3.com.

The only page currently available on that site is the home page; which has the temporary Sims 3 logo. Some words out to the side is what has us really excited. In big bold letters, it reads:

“More Information Coming Soon*!  *March 19th, 2008.”

We can only assume what might take place on March 19th. But whatever it is, it’s going to be amazing. We will be here all day to cover whatever might take place.

MGS4 Release Date, 80GB PS3 Bundle, and more.

Metal Gear Solid 4 has finally been given a solid release date of June ’08. Metal Gear Solid 4 was delayed late last year and we have been waiting for an announcement ever since. We may be going out on a limb, but we are going to go even further and say that it will be out Thursday, June 12th, 2008.

But the release announcement isn’t the only surprising news.

Earlier today at Destination PlayStation, a retailers only conference for Sony products, Sony announced that a Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle pack will be released in Q2 2008. The bundle will include MGS4, an 80GB PS3 and a Dual Shock 3 included for an MSRP of $499.99. It will also include an Metal Gear Online “Starter Pack.”

“Wait a minute….WHAT!?!?! A new 80GB PS3 Bundle!? I thought they were discontinued?”

We thought the same thing. The president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA), Jack Trenton, had this to say:

“In response to incredible demand, we will be manufacturing more 80GB PS3s for North America and the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots 80GB PS3 bundle is an ideal way to offer that continued value to our consumers.”

EA Bids on Take-Two, then gets rejected (twice)

Over the past couple of days, gaming giant Electronic Arts has bid on Take-Two Interactive with two different offers. The first one being for $25 a share, which was rejected.

The second offer came around midday yesterday for $26 a share. This offer is roughly $2 higher than Take-Two’s highest share price over the past year. Coming late yesterday, a press release was issued stating that “Take-Two Interactive Software’s board rejects Electronic Arts’ unsolicited proposal as inadequate.”

“Given the great importance of the Grand Theft Auto IV launch to the value of Take-Two, the Board has determined that the only prudent and responsible course for [Take-Two] and its stockholders is to defer these discussions until immediately after Grand Theft Auto IV is released. Therefore, we offered to initiate discussions with EA on April 30th, 2008 (the day after Grand Theft Auto IV is scheduled to release).”

In letters from EA, reasons were given why they think Take-Two should be bought out now.

  • They think once GTA IV ships, the share price and value of the company will go down.
  • They also believe that since the company is pretty much done developing GTA IV, now would be the perfect time to merge so there would be minimal disruption inside the company.

80GB Playstation 3 Officially Discontinued?

The rumor that the 80GB Playstation 3 system is being discontinued keeps getting better and better. We are now getting reports that corporate offices have sent out an internal email stating that stores “shouldn’t expect any further shipments on the higher end, PS2 compatible SKU.” Basically meaning that the only 80GB PS3s stores will receive are the ones they currently have.

So far, websites for BestBuy.com and Gamestop.com have taken down the ‘new’ 80GB system from their database. GameStop.com is now only offering new 40GBs and refurbished 40GB, 60GB, and 80GB. BestBuy.com only offers new 40GBs.

So far, there has been no indication on what might replace the 80GB system. Sony was contacted, and once again replied with “SCEA does not comment on rumors or speculation.

We can assure you we will hear more about this soon.
